Objective:

Students will be introduced to the course and each other by collecting data about themselves and making observations. They will also discover the definition of "data."

Materials:

Information Stations (LMR_U1_L01_A_Information_Stations) - can be hand-drawn or printed using poster paper or other material; placed around classroom

Essential Concepts:

Data is information gathered through observation or responses. We can collect data about many different things, including ourselves. Looking at collected data helps us notice patterns, similarities, and differences. Data are all around us and used in many aspects of daily life.

- Prior to class starting, draw a horizontal number line from 0 to 15 on the board. Include the prompt: “How many hours of sleep did you get last night? Round to the nearest whole number.”
